Cze\u015b\u0107. Mam na imi\u0119 Alicja i pochodz\u0119 z Polski, ale przez 18 lat mieszka\u0142am w Wielkiej Brytanii. Tam wysz\u0142am za m\u0105\u017c i urodzi\u0142am dwie c\u00f3rki. W lipcu 2025 roku nasza rodzina przeprowadzi\u0142a si\u0119 do La Eliana, niedaleko Walencji. W tym blogu chcia\u0142abym opowiedzie\u0107 histori\u0119 naszej podr\u00f3\u017cy, od marze\u0144, przez dyskusje, po dzia\u0142ania, kt\u00f3re to wszystko umo\u017cliwiaj\u0105. First thoughts about relocating<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kiedy my\u015bl\u0119 o czasach, kiedy zacz\u0119li\u015bmy powa\u017cnie my\u015ble\u0107 o wyprowadzce z Wielkiej Brytanii, my\u015bl\u0119, \u017ce wyjazd do Nicei w po\u0142owie semestru w pa\u017adzierniku 2023 roku by\u0142 tym momentem. Pojechali\u015bmy tam, aby uczci\u0107 czterdzieste urodziny mojego m\u0119\u017ca. Wyjazd by\u0142 niesamowity. Pogoda wci\u0105\u017c by\u0142a pi\u0119kna, mimo \u017ce by\u0142 koniec pa\u017adziernika. Mieli\u015bmy szcz\u0119\u015bcie, \u017ce znale\u017ali\u015bmy mieszkanie na star\u00f3wce z widokiem na morze. Na \u015bniadanie jedli\u015bmy croissanty z czekolad\u0105 i \u015bwie\u017ce owoce z targu tu\u017c przed naszym mieszkaniem. Najwa\u017cniejsze by\u0142o to, \u017ce sp\u0119dzili\u015bmy ca\u0142y dzie\u0144 na \u015bwie\u017cym powietrzu, ciesz\u0105c si\u0119 s\u0142o\u0144cem, pla\u017c\u0105 i jedzeniem. Siedz\u0105c w parku, obserwuj\u0105c bawi\u0105ce si\u0119 c\u00f3rki, zacz\u0119li\u015bmy rozmawia\u0107 o tym, jak by to by\u0142o mie\u0107 takie \u017cycie \u2013 s\u0142o\u0144ce, zaj\u0119cia na \u015bwie\u017cym powietrzu, pyszne jedzenie i relaksuj\u0105c\u0105 atmosfer\u0119 nie raz czy dwa razy w roku, ale przez ca\u0142y rok. Kolejne pytanie brzmia\u0142o \u2013 gdzie? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oczywi\u015bcie Nicea by\u0142a pierwszym miastem, o kt\u00f3rym pomy\u015bleli\u015bmy, poniewa\u017c w\u0142a\u015bnie tam wtedy byli\u015bmy. Jednak w rzeczywisto\u015bci nic nas z tym miejscem nie \u0142aczy. Nikt z nas nie m\u00f3wi ani nie zna j\u0119zyka francuskiego (poza moim m\u0119\u017cem, kt\u00f3ry uczy\u0142 si\u0119 francuskiego w szkole dawno temu). Nie znamy nikogo, kto mieszka tam na sta\u0142e. Po prostu nie czuli\u015bmy, \u017ce Francja jest miejscem dla nas. Kr\u00f3tko rozwa\u017cali\u015bmy opcje, takie jak Australia lub Azja, ale nie chcieli\u015bmy jecha\u0107 gdzie\u015b tak daleko. Rodzice i brat mojego m\u0119\u017ca mieszkaj\u0105 w Wielkiej Brytanii. Wi\u0119kszo\u015b\u0107 mojej rodziny mieszka w Polsce, ale niekt\u00f3rzy r\u00f3wnie\u017c w Wielkiej Brytanii. Chcieli\u015bmy wybra\u0107 kraj, w kt\u00f3rym nadal b\u0119dziemy mogli regularnie widywa\u0107 si\u0119 z rodzin\u0105. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Valencia region?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I must say that Valencia was always in the back of our minds every time we had started the conversation about relocating. We went to Valencia for the first time in June 2018 for a city break when our older daughter was only 2 years old. I won\u2019t be lying if I say that we have fallen in love with this city then. What is not to love about Valencia? The location is great as it is situated between Barcelona in the north and Alicante to the south, with access to the sea. It is a perfect starting point if you want to explore inland Spain, go to the mountains or take a ferry to Ibiza, Majorca or Menorca. Valencia has such a friendly, family vibe. It isn\u2019t as touristy as Barcelona or Madrid, although during The Fallas the tourists are hard to ignore. Valencia offers everything you can wish for from the big city, but on the other hand it doesn\u2019t overwhelm you. It is easy to navigate around, many places you can reach by walking, especially through the lovely Turia Gardens. It is safe, it has a lot of entertainment and I think it is a great place to raise children. During our city break we had lunch out but breakfast and supper we got from the local Carrefour. I must admit that this shop came up in many of our conversations when we were back in the UK as the choice of food available (especially cheese, jamon and olives) was overwhelming. Everyone who has ever been to the UK will surely agree with me that the food offered in supermarkets is not very enticing. We spent our days walking around the city center, we went to the Bioparc, we visited the City of Arts and Science and the Aquarium. I know that many of you will say: This is the holiday, this is not how normal life looks like. I agree. However we saw the families going out for picnics in Turia Gardens after they collected their children from school. We saw the birthday parties in the park, children playing, doing sports just being outside with families. And it was a normal life for them. The children seemed happy, full of energy, parents socializing together. It all looked authentic and spontaneous and this is what we wanted for our family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had been to Barcelona before and to Madrid but it was always Valencia that I was mostly drawn to. Maybe it was meant to be. We didn\u2019t speak Spanish. We thought we didn\u2019t have any connections in this place (which proved to be wrong). Somehow it felt like the choice had already been made and it felt right. We knew we wanted to go back to Valencia before we started planning anything seriously. We wanted to feel this city again and see if it was the same as we had remembered it from our trip in 2018. But first we had discovered that we know someone who lives here and who relocated from the UK, funny enough, in 2018. My next post will be about that. And about the first steps we took on our journey to living in Spain.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

City, beach, country or island? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For people who decided on relocating to Spain but are not sure which region to choose, if living in the city suits them better than enjoying the countryside, would they prefer mountains to the coastline? I would recommend coming to Spain on holidays and exploring a bit. The regions vary and so do the local laws. The options below give just an overview:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Mieszkanie nad morzem. Hiszpania ma d\u0142ug\u0105 lini\u0119 brzegow\u0105, wi\u0119c musisz rozwa\u017cy\u0107, czy wolisz region nad Oceanem Atlantyckim, czy nad Morzem \u015ar\u00f3dziemnym. Je\u015bli najbardziej interesuje Ci\u0119 \u017cycie na pla\u017cy, wyb\u00f3r tej opcji b\u0119dzie najlepszym rozwi\u0105zaniem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Country living. This option would be for people who opt for a quieter life, away from tourists,  people who want to enjoy beautiful mountain views, lakes, waterfalls or looking for a farm. Inland properties offer value for money but the unemployment rate will be higher and some locations might be remote.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
